September 2021 Meeting

Our speaker for September is Patricia Burk, M.S., CCC-SLP, LSLS Cert. AVT.  Patricia is the Program Coordinator for the Newborn Hearing Screening Program at the Oklahoma State Department of Health. She is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the program which serves 50,000 infants a year.  She coordinates and monitors hearing equipment and screening capabilities at all Oklahoma birthing hospitals as well as most county health departments. Patricia helps to promote early identification, diagnosis, and amplification of children with hearing loss throughout the State of Oklahoma. She also coordinates the Oklahoma Audiology Task force (OKAT). Patricia has experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist working with children and adults who have hearing loss. Patricia is a Listening and Spoken Language Specialist, Certified Auditory-Verbal Therapist (LSLS Cert. AVT). She received her graduate training from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.  Through her experiences, she has seen first-hand the power of early identification of hearing loss in Oklahoma’s babies. Patricia serves has services on the boards of the Oklahoma Speech-Language Hearing Association (OSHA) and the Directors of Speech and Hearing Programs in State Health and Welfare Agencies (DSHPSHWA). She currently serves as a member of the national Joint Committee on Infant Hearing (JCIH).
